Richard McDonald has been practising law for over 23 years and specialises in Criminal, Traffic Law, Wills and Estates, and Family Law.

He created McDonald Law in 2022.

Richard qualified as a Police Prosecutor in 2004 and was admitted that same year as a Solicitor in the Supreme Court of NSW.

Richard has appeared at all levels of the court system and advised the most senior ranks of the NSW Police Force, including the Commissioner of Police. He was also an educator to the Prosecutor Education Program training new prosecutors and an in-house counsel legal consultant to specialist commands such as the elite detectives at NSWPF State Crime Command, Professional Standards (Internal Affairs) Command, Operation Raptor, Organised Crime, Gangs Squad, Sex Crimes, Fraud Squad, and the Cybercrime Squad.

Richard brings his depth of knowledge in criminal law and his years of expertise to private practice, assisting a range of clients in navigating the complex criminal justice system. He is an expert in providing advice and representing clients in assault offences, sexual offences, domestic and personal violence, apprehended violence orders, traffic, driver licence offences, drink driving and drug driving offences, firearms and weapons offences, fraud, property offences, possession and supply drugs, affray, riot, violent disorder, bail applications, severity and all grounds appeals, organised crime offences, and crime commission offences to name a few.

Richard has advised on numerous legislative amendments, including the Bail Act 2013, Mental Health Act 2007, Security Industry Act 1997, Road Transport Act 2013, and Public Health Act 2010.

Richard has also completed a Graduate Certificate of Global Business Practice at Macquarie University in 2022 and is completing his Master of Applied Law majoring in Family Law and Wills and Estates.

Richard believes in simplifying what is an uncertain process to ensure that clients are properly informed and can make appropriate decisions in their legal interests. He is available to assist clients across the Sydney CBD, Metropolitan areas, and Regional New South Wales.
